Whit Alexander Services for Whit Alexander of Jacksonville will be at 2:30 p.m., Saturday at Churchill CME Church with the Rev. Charles Hill, the Rev. Orentha Mason and the Rev. James Peoples officiating. Burial will be at Jacksonville City Cemetery under the direction of Williams Funeral Home of Jacksonville. Mr. Alexander died Thursday in Jacksonville. He was born Sept. 24, 1917, in Jacksonville. He was a lifelong resident of Jacksonville and attended Churchill Public School. He was a retired housekeeping supervisor of Nan Travis Hospital. He served in the U.S. Army. He was an active member of Churchill CME Church, served on the Pink Ladies Auxiliary for several years, and was also a steward and served on the usher board. He is preceded in death by parents, Moody and Hannah Alexander; and sister, Mattie Lee. Survivors include his wife, Canary Alexander of Jacksonville; son, Timothy Chase of Houston; daughter, Helen Hymes of Dallas; brother, William Clark of Hercules, Calif.; sister, Ora Lee Clark of Hercules, Calif.; three grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Pallbearers are Timothy Stroupe, Chester Alexander, Emmitt Chase, Ray Dunham, Troy Hymes, Bert Jones and Issac Jones. Honorary pallbearers are the stewards of Churchill CME Church. Spencer Lamont Montgomery Services for Spencer Lamont Montgomery, 26, of Jacksonville will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sweet Union Baptist Church in Jacksonville with the Rev. Earl Franklin, the Rev. C.L. Harris and the Rev. Donald R. Browning officiating. Burial will be at the Jacksonville City Cemetery under the direction of Williams Funeral Home. Mr. Montgomery died Friday in Jacksonville. He was born June 11, 1976, in Jacksonville. He was a resident of Jacksonville and attended Jacksonville High School. He was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his grandparents. Survivors include parents, Brenda Sue and R. Lee Potts of Jacksonville, and Larry Montgomery of Bryant; son, Keyshun Montgomery of Lufkin; daughters, Shyla and Sheyela Montgomery of Jacksonville; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lester B. Thompson Sr. of Jacksonville, and Bernice Harris of College Station; brothers, Gary Montgomery of Jacksonville and Gregory and Michael Franklin of Jacksonville. Pallbearers will be Layell Riggins, Byron Franklin, Jason Franklin, Davion Feller, Raymon Franklin and Wade Kennedy. Honorary pallbearers include Claude Dennis, Edwin Brooks, Marquise Chapmon, Derrick Holman, Willie Franklin and Donyell Richardson. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Venice May McLendon Services for Venice May McLendon, 90, of Jacksonville, will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Renfro Memorial Chapel at Boren-Conner Funeral Home with the Rev. Sara Barberee officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery. Mrs. McLendon died Saturday at a Tyler Hospital. She spent several years in a Rusk nursing home. She was born July 20, 1912 in Jacksonville and was a lifelong Jacksonville area resident. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Jacksonville, and served 31 years with the Jacksonville ISD Food Service Department. She was preceded in death by her husband, R.T. “Dick” McLendon. Survivors include son, David McLendon of Jacksonville; daughters and son-in-law, Janice and Richard Green of Waco and Betty Babaa of Mount Pleasant and Dallas; sister, Florence Darling of Beeville; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Charles E. ‘Glenn’ Jones Graveside services for Charles E. “Glenn” Jones, 72, of Jacksonville will be at 1 p.m., Friday at New Emmaus Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home. Mr. Jones died Tuesday at his residence. He was born April 30, 1930 in Cherokee County. He was a truck driver and welder. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. Survivors include wife, Janette O. Jones of Jacksonville; sons, Mark Edward and Tommy Glenn Jones of Jacksonville; daughters, Sandra Nell Smith and Elaine Pryor of Jacksonville, and Glenna Kay Findlea of Lake Palestine; brothers, Harlan Paul Jones and Jack Dodds of Jacksonville, and Vernell Jones of Mount Selman; sisters, Odessa Rzepniewski of Colleyville, and Louise Rogers of Fort Worth; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Eary Benton Services for Eary Benton, 87, of Reklaw will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Woodville CME Church in Rusk. The Revs. Robert Thomas, Billy Tribble, Phal Carter and James Fuller will officiate. Burial will be at Pleasant Holly Cemetery in Rusk under the direction of Jenkins-Garmon Funeral Home in Henderson. Mr. Benton died Friday in Rusk. He was born Feb. 4, 1915, in Cherokee County to the late George and Florence Benton. He was a retired pulpwood contractor. He was a member of Pleasant Holly Presbyterian Church. Mr. Benton was preceded in death by his son, Earl Lewis, and his parents. Survivors include his wife, Corene Benton of Reklaw; daughters, Lorene Castleberry of Reklaw, Gladis Lewis of Rusk, Misty Benton of Nacogdoches and Othorene Griffith of Tyler; son, Jacob Benton of Rusk; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Pallbearers will be John Griffith, Michael Johnson, Tyrone Johnson, Larry Lewis, Patrick Lewis and Tracy Session. Honorary pallbearers include Jacob Benton, Marcus Griffith, J.L. Johnson, James Lewis, Anthony Simmons and Benjamin Stephens. Irene Bailey Services for Irene Bailey of Fairfield will be at 10 a.m., Friday at Fairfield Christian Center with the Rev. Eston Turner officiating. Burial will be at Dew Cemetery under the direction of Capps Memorial Chapel in Fairfield. Mrs. Bailey died Wednesday in Tyler. She was born March 15, 1927, in Freestone County. She was a homemaker and a member of Fairfield Christian Center. Survivors include sisters, Lela Ward and Louise Graham of Fairfield; daughters, Mary Allen of Athens, Brenda Hampton of Jacksonville and Linda Caldwell of Palestine; sons, Don Bailey of Palestine, and John Bailey of Corsicana; 10 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. Pallbearers are Michael Grasty, Clayton Churchman, Dustin Churchman, Patrick Bailey, Matthew Hampton, Chip Silvey, and Chris Cox. Visitation will be from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Ira William Wilke Services for Ira William Wilke, 103, of Jacksonville are pending under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home in Jacksonville. Mr. Wilke died Wednesday in Jacksonville. |
