Services for Charlie W. Davis, 94, of Palestine will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Rev. Bill Sheffield and the Rev. Dan Easterling officiating. Burial will follow at Chambers Cemetery. Mr. Davis died Thursday in Elkhart. He was born June 5, 1908, in Palestine to the late Joseph William and Myra Denson Davis. Mr. Davis was a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of the Walston Springs Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon of the church and the former Sunday school superintendent. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Thomas Davis. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mary Holmes Davis of Palestine; children, Joyce and Arnold Ray of Palestine, Virginia and Buddy Walker of Palestine, Wayne and Carol Davis of Jacksonville, Dub and Wanda Davis of Elkhart, and Larry and Linda Davis of Palestine; sister, Mildred Malone of Palestine; nine grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Terry Walker, Randy Walker, Kevin Davis, Phillip Davis, Lane Davis and Heath Martin. Honorary pallbearers will be Nathan Keel and Bill Grant. Peggy Lynn Lemke Paul Services for Peggy Lynn Lemke Paul, 44, of Alto will be at 11 a.m. Monday at O.T. Allen & Son Funeral Chapel in Alto, with the Rev. Paul Stalnaker officiating. Burial will be at Old Palestine Cemetery in Alto. Mrs. Paul died Thursday near Douglass. She was born Jan. 15, 1958, in Huntsville to J.D. and Ellen Sherr Lemke. She lived most of her life in Alto, where she was a member of the Cold Springs Methodist Church and a 1976 graduate of Alto High School. She was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the V.F.W. She had worked as a supervisor at the Lufkin State School at the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and also for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ellen Dominy; father, J.D. Lemke Sr.; and grandparents, Roy and Dulcina Jordan. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry Glen and Rebekka Davis of Alto; daughter and son-in-law, Tyease and Ronnie Ethridge of Lufkin; brothers, James Manley of Florence, Ariz., and J.D. Lemke Jr. of Huntsville; sisters, Christy Randall of Alto and Sue Ann Lemke of Huntsville; grandchildren, Kelton and Logan Davis; great-aunt, I.T. Daniel of Huntsville; and nephews, Bill Randall and Christian Randall. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Emmittee Arnwine Ragsdale Services for Emmittee Arnwine Ragsdale, 80, of Jacksonville, will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Mount Haven C.M.E. Church in Jacksonville, with the Revs. Leroy Redwine, Robert Christopher and Earl Franklin officiating. Burial will be at Ragsdale Cemetery under the direction of Williams Funeral Home. Ms. Ragsdale died Friday in Jacksonville. She was born June 11, 1922, in Jacksonville. She attended Mount Haven Elementary, Fred Douglass High School, Tillotson College in Austin and Sweat Beauty College in Tyler. She was a resident of Jacksonville and an active member of Mount Haven C.M.E. Church, where she served for several years as secretary of the Sunday school and was also a member of the Missionary Society and on the Usher Board. She was a licensed beautician. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emmitt and Laura Arnwine, and her daughter, Carlene. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Paul B. and Debbie Ragsdale of Jacksonville and Godfrey and Jocelyn G. Ragsdale of Jacksonville; daughter, Laurene Ragsdale of Dallas; sisters and brothers-in-law, Elmar A. and Chauncey Tilley of Dallas, Ruth A. Whitaker of Longview, Effie A. and Archie Clark of Washington D.C. and Freddie A. and Wardell Cairo of Austin; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be David L. Black, Derrion Castleberry, Donal Ray Waits and Ronnie Ragsdale. Honorary pallbearers will be the stewards of Mount Haven C.M.E. Church. William T. Earley Services for William T. Earley of Conroe will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville with the Rev. James Blaylock officiating. Mr. Earley died Thursday. He was born May 8, 1914, in Cisco. He was an iron worker and welder and a member of First Baptist Church in Groceville. He is preceded in death by his wife, Willie Faye Earley and daughter, Janette Diann Meriwether. Survivors include sons and daughter-in-laws, Teddy Glenn and Fay Earley of Redvale, Colo., and Larry Dennis Earley of Manvel; son-in-law, Clyde Meriwether of Pasadena; eight grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Larry Earley Jr., Douglas Meriwether, David Earley, Johnny Delaney, Toney Delaney and Burnell Delaney. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. |
