- Lavenia Smith Boyd
Lavenia Smith Boyd of Jacksonville, formerly of Houston went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 27, 2002, after a lengthy illness. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, August 29, 2002 at Forest Park Lawndale, Houston, Texas. Local arrangements are under the direction of Boren-Conner Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
She was born October 21, 1915 in Sentinel, Oklahoma to the late John and Opal Smith. She was a self-employed beautician in Houston prior to moving Jacksonville in 1982. She was a member of the First Methodist Church, Houston, a former member of the American Business Women's Association, former secretary of VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Houston and a life member of the DAV Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, H.C. “Mack” McGehee and Cecil J. Boyd, sisters, Lorene Smith, Pauline Reed and Dorothy Bills.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Gene Fincher of Jacksonville; son and daughter-in-law, James and Janet McGehee of Houston; sisters, Leta Roberts and Doris Porter of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Tena Fincher of Houston, Kenja Feemster of Colleyville and Jamie Travis of Euless; six great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Betty Casper.
If desired, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, Texas.

William ‘Bill’ Turney Jr.
Services for William “Bill” Turney Jr., 58, of Rusk will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles A. Costello officiating.
Burial will be at Lowes Chapel Cemetery in Rusk under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Rusk.
Mr. Turney died Sunday in Woden.
He was born Feb. 8, 1944, in Houston.
He was resident of Rusk for 24 years and a former resident of Houston.
He attended U.T. Tyler and graduated from Texas A&M University. He was Rusk City Manager for two years.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Rusk and taught Sunday school, was former chairman of the finance committee, served on the church council, board of trustees and various other positions in the church, and was a member of Rusk Kiwanis Club.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Turney of Rusk; father, Bill Turney Sr. of Baycliff; mother, Frances Ricker of Houston; son and daughter -in-law, Ben and Candi Turney of Flint; daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Shane Newman of Jacksonville; half-brother, Eddie Moore of Houston; two half-sisters, Beverly Deaton of Clearlake and Maize Forrester of Freeport; and three grandchildren, Sierra and Savannah Turney of Flint and Hannah Coleman of Jacksonville.
Pallbearers will be Bill Janish, Thomas Monroe, Clint Smith, Cliff Mantzel, Matt Vermillion and Chris Gluck.
Honorary pallbearers will be City of Rusk employees and members of the Living Faith Sunday school class.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
